Skin in the Game: The Secret Sauce Behind Real Growth
Own the responsibilities - delegation is a must but one needs to bite the bullet when needed.

We’ve all heard the phrase “put your skin in the game.”
But what does it truly mean in the world of entrepreneurship, leadership, and personal growth?
For me, it is much more than a clever phrase—it has become a way of life.
For many years, I worked within the corporate ecosystem. I saw the structure, the systems, the predictability, and the rewards that come with stability. At the same time, I also saw the boundaries—the invisible ceilings that often limit how much one can truly create, experiment, and own.
Twelve years ago, I made a decision that many people contemplate but few actually take: I stepped out.
I started my own venture.
It was not a leap of confidence as much as it was a leap of faith.
Because when you step into entrepreneurship, something fundamentally changes. You are no longer working within a system—you are building the system itself.
And that is where the real meaning of “skin in the game” begins to unfold.
Over the past four years, under the banner of BookMyStory, something remarkable has happened. The traction of growth I once imagined has started to take shape in ways that feel deeply meaningful.
We’re not just publishing books.
We’re helping people find their voice.
We’re helping professionals build credibility.
We’re helping stories that might have remained hidden reach the world.
But most importantly, we are building belief—the belief that when someone commits fully to their purpose, extraordinary things begin to happen.
So what changed?
The simple answer is:
I did.
I decided to put my skin in the game.
That meant many things.
It meant owning challenges instead of outsourcing blame.
It meant staying up late—not because someone expected it, but because I wanted the outcome to be better the next morning.
It meant learning, unlearning, and evolving every single day.
Entrepreneurship humbles you.
One day you celebrate success like a child.
The next day you reflect on setbacks like a monk.
Both are essential.
And along the way, something even more powerful happens—you begin to build a tribe.
A tribe of partners who believe in your mission.
Associates who grow alongside you.
Team members who care deeply about the work.
And most importantly, clients who eventually become advocates.
That transformation—from client to believer—is perhaps the most fulfilling part of the journey.
Because when your skin is in the game, every detail matters.
Every conversation.
Every promise made.
Every commitment delivered.
Nothing is “just work” anymore.
Whether it’s creating a book for a first-time author, helping an entrepreneur strengthen their personal brand, or designing a publishing campaign that amplifies someone’s message, I remind myself of one simple truth:
I am not just part of the process.
I own it.
And ownership changes everything.
It sharpens your focus.
It deepens your accountability.
It aligns your actions with your deeper “why.”
So here’s a question I’d love to leave you with today:
Is your skin truly in the game?
Not partially.
Not cautiously.
But completely.
Because the moment you begin to own your journey as if the outcome depends entirely on you—because in many ways it does—something shifts inside you.
Your energy changes.
Your decisions become clearer.
Your purpose becomes stronger.
And slowly, the world begins to respond.
Let’s continue to build, learn from each other, and celebrate the joy of putting our hearts, minds, and skin into what we create.
Warm regards,
